Dash Lights Procedure
Identify Problem

Have member turn the ignition off and then back on. Any dash lights that stay are actual problems. Lights that go off are fine, but let member know to call us immediately if they pop back on at any time.

Have member describe what the light looks like. Ask the member to send a picture if possible, especially if you have any questions on which light they are describing.

Once you've identified the light, follow corresponding procedure on how to proceed.
Legend
Out of service for fleet - create a ticket and take car out of service/block. If member is mid-trip, they should not continue driving without fleet approval unless otherwise stated in instructions. Let fleet know that the car is blocked and confirm block length is enough time.
Ticket for fleet - create a ticket for fleet on the issue, car can remain in service and member can finish trip. Let fleet know you've created a ticket on this issue and that car is still in service.
Not an issue and no ticket needed. - everything is fine and no ticket needed, car can remain in service.
Warning Lights
Flashing lights
If any dash lights are flashing, vehicle should be taken out of service. Follow procedure for mid-trip member displacement.
Check Engine or Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL):

Indicates the engine computer has set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). Usually requires diagnosis with a professional scan tool. Out of service for fleet
Battery Charging Alert

Indicates voltage level is below normal level and the vehicle’s charging system is not functioning properly. Check battery terminals, alternator belt, and battery condition. Out of service for fleet
Coolant Temp Warning

Blue: indicates the engine needs to warm up, which is common in winter.
Not an issue and no ticket needed.
Red or orange: indicates temperature has exceeded normal limits. Check coolant level, fan operation, radiator cap, coolant leaks.

Transmission Temperature

Transmission is operating at higher than optimum temperature as transmission fluid is hotter than normal. Check transmission fluid level and engine coolant level. Out of service for fleet
Oil Pressure Warning

If this light stays lit, it indicates loss of engine oil pressure. Immediately check oil level and pressure. Out of service for fleet
Oil Change Reminder or “Oil at x%”

Indicates that oil life has expired. This is monitored by the Engine Control Module (ECM); the interval can be mileage or a combination of readings taken by the ECM. The reset procedure is listed in the owner’s manual. Some vehicles require the use of special tools to reset the light. Ticket for fleet
Service Vehicle Soon or Maintenance Required

Typically indicates a lighting or other electrical problem that is controlled by the BCM (body control module). Check all lights (headlights, turn signals, brake lights, and hazard lights). This symbol may also be used to warn driver of a traction control problem, or a communication problem between modules. Have member check lights and Ticket for fleet
TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

Indicates the tire pressure monitoring system has found a tire with low air pressure or there may be a TPMS sensor malfunction. Check tire pressure. Some vehicles will allow manual reset of TPMS warning light and others will require professional diagnosis. Refer to owner’s manual.
Bubble in Tire Sidewall
A small bulge in the tire sidewall can look harmless, but it could have serious consequences. Any tire bulge indicates a major problem with your tire that could cause a tire blowout and a dangerous accident at any time

In all cars, have member look for visible flats, foreign objects, or bubbles in a sidewall. If any of these apply:

If the car has a screen that shows PSI, here's the minimum levels per make and model:
- Nissan Leaf and Chevy Equinox - anything under 35psi should go
Out of service for fleet.
- All Other Makes and Models - anything under 30psi should go
Out of service for fleet.
Member can finish their trip if it is less than 5 miles long and they stay off freeways/highways, ONLY IF the car has 5 under the minimum psi level, with notice to call immediately if it goes below this number. 5psi under the minimum should not be driven. This means 30psi for Leafs and Equinox, 25psi for all others.
- Nissan Leaf and Chevy Equinox - anything under 35psi should go

Anything over 35psi for Leaf and Equinox and 30psi for others is good to remain in service with a ticket.

If no screen that shows PSI and there's no visible flat, bubbles, or foreign objects,
Ticket for fleet and recommend the member take it to a tire shop or service station for a free fill.
- Older cars, especially Honda Civics, are known to have faulty TPMS sensors that over alert. If the tires all are visibly inflated and seem solid when pressed, the light could be alerting in error.
Brake System

Indicates one of three possible conditions: parking brake is on; problem with the braking system/brake fluid is low, or ABS problem. Check brake fluid and make sure the parking brake is fully released. If the problem is in the ABS system, it may need a professional diagnosis.
Ensure member has disengaged parking/emergency brake. See Vehicle Info for details on emergency brake release per make and model.

If disengaging emergency brake makes the light go away and member has not yet driven,
Not an issue and no ticket needed.

If disengaging emergency brake makes the light go away and the member had driven the vechile with the parking/emergency brake on prior to calling us,
Ticket for fleet. Check with fleet if they want us to take car OOS after trip.

If the light does not go away when the emergency brake is off,
Out of service for fleet.
Reduced Power Warning

Indicates Engine Computer has limited engine power output. The Engine Control Module (ECM) has many levels of reduced power depending on what component has failed in its control system. Usually requires diagnosis with a professional scan tool. Out of service for fleet.
ABS Light

Indicates that the Anti-lock Brake system computer has set a code and needs professional diagnosis, or that the Anti-Lock Brake system is engaging.

If this is only lighting up when the Anti-lock Brakes engage and turns off afterwards, this is
Not an issue and no ticket needed.

If this light persists when Anti-lock Brake is not engaged or is on at start of trip,
Out of service for fleet
Gas Cap

The check gas cap light indicates that the gas cap is not tightened properly. If not addressed, quite often the Check Engine Light will also illuminate. Ticket for fleet
Cruise Control

Indicates that cruise control is set during driving. Not an issue and no ticket needed.
ESP Fault

Indicates that there is a problem with the vehicle’s traction control/anti-skid or electronic stability system. Out of service for fleet
Security Alert

If the symbol lights momentarily it may mean that the ignition switch is locked and will need the proper transponder-equipped key to re-start. If the symbol is visible when the vehicle is on, then it typically indicates a malfunction in the security system. Ticket for fleet
Lamp Out

Indicates that there is an exterior light on the vehicle that is not functioning properly. Out of service for fleet. Please have member let us know which light is out for quickest fix.
If the full trip is during the day and the weather does not require headlamps, the member may be able to finish their trip. Confirm with fleet when the car needs to be taken out of service.
Traction Control or ESP

Illuminates when the vehicle’s traction control/anti-skid or electronic stability system is in use. Usually an indicator that conditions are slippery. If it stays on, Ticket for fleet
Door Ajar

Indicates that a door (including hood and trunk) is not closed. Open and close all doors, including hood and trunk. If vehicle is left in this condition overnight it can drain the battery. Instruct members to check all doors, hood and trunk. If it stays on, Ticket for fleet
Overdrive Light

This symbol indicates that the vehicle’s overdrive system has been manually turned off. Typically the overdrive system is controlled by an on/off switch. Not an issue and no ticket needed.
Airbag Fault

If this light stays illuminated after starting, it indicates that the vehicle has found a fault in the airbag system and the computer has set a code. Professional repair of the supplemental restraint system is highly recommended. Out of service for fleet
Washer Fluid Reminder

Indicates washer fluid is low. Fill washer fluid reservoir. The cap has a symbol that looks like a windshield. Some vehicles have separate reservoirs for front and rear window washers. Ticket for fleet
Fog Lamp

Indicates that the vehicle’s front fog lamps are illuminated. Fog lamps should be able to be switched off, making light go away. Not an issue and no ticket needed.
Car Ready

This light indicates that the car is on and ready to drive. Not an issue and no ticket needed.
Auto Hold

This is a feature that prevents the car from moving when the brake is not pressed down. Not an issue and no ticket needed. See Hyundai Ioniq Auto Hold for details.
