How to Service a Car

Overview

When not responding to tickets, most of a Fleet Associate's job involves going around to cars in the Evie and HOURCAR fleets and servicing them. Some days, you will have time to complete all of these steps in every car, but other days, you will have not have time to get every car pristine, and will have to prioritize the steps that will keep the car pleasant, functional, and in service.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself when servicing a car:

  1. Is the car clean? This includes taking trash and Lost-and-Found items out of the car, wiping down the dashboard and anywhere else lots of hands touch, vacuuming/cleaning off the seats, and vacuuming the floor or shaking out the floor mats. If the car smells, spray some ZEP odor eliminator inside. If the car's exterior needs a wash, every Evie should have a Holiday Car Wash pass sticker on the windshield.
  2. Does the car have everything it needs? This includes in-car supplies (a list of which is below), but also correct tire pressure (see table below) and adequate wiper fluid.
  3. Does the car have sufficient charge? Cars will take themselves out of service at or under 40 miles of autonomy, at which case a Low Autonomy ticket will be triggered and Fleet will need to bring the car to a charger and plug it in. If a car is not yet OOS for Low Autonomy, but you still want to charge it, you can set the car's OOS reason to "is-charging" or "low-autonomy-level" and it will put itself back into service when it has reached sufficient charge.

What Goes in the Car?

  • Ice Scrapers (one big, two small)
  • Wipes
  • Trip Tips key ring
  • Appropriate keys/cards (attached with a fob when necessary)
  • For Evie: EV Spot charge card, ChargePoint card
  • For HOURCAR (as appropriate): parking ramp pass, ChargePoint card, car key

Refilling Wiper Fluid

To access the wiper fluid reservoir, first open the hood of the car. Do this by pulling forward on the tab below and to the left of the steering wheel. The first picture shows where to find this on a Bolt, and the second shows on a Leaf.

Once the hood is open, make sure to pour the wiper fluid into the correct reservoir. The first picture shows where to find this on a Bolt, and the second shows on a Leaf.
