Remotely Starting a ChargePoint Charge Session
At Multifamily Project and Electric HOURCAR stations, members will sometimes plug in their car at the end of their trip, but fail to activate the charging session with the included RFID card. This can result in situations where a member is displaced later due to a low-autonomy vehicle.
To start:
- Sign in to the ChargePoint Admin Dashboard with an account that has the correct permissions to utilize this feature.
- Navigate to the Stations Overview Table to select the station you are seeking to activate charging for. Note: Most charging stations have multiple listings in this table (one per plug), for example left plug
HOURCAR / MAYA1, right plugHOURCAR / MAYA2, and the communication gatewayHOURCAR / MAYA GATEWAY. A station with a Blue marker under column "Station Status" indicates that this station plug is connected to a vehicle, but it is not possible to determine if charging is active from this table. - At the Station Info View, you can check if the connected vehicle is actively charging at the
Sessionstab. If active, the page will display information about the amount of time the connected vehicle has been charging, and how much power the EVSE has delivered to the vehicle. If charging is not active, an error message readingNo active sessionswill be displayed. - To remotely activate charging, navigate to the
Status / Actionstab. On the box,Troubleshoot, there is an option toStart Session. Once selected, a pop-up will notify you that ChargePoint is communicating with the station to handshake with the vehicle and begin charging. If successful, you will be redirected to theSessionspage to verify that energy is properly flowing to the vehicle.
Considerations
- If a charge session is accidentally stopped, it can not be started again unless the plug is removed from the charge port, returned to it's dock on the station, then reinserted to the vehicle. Be careful not to press that button.
